The Department of Education Schools Division of Iloilo City beams with pride as two of its leaders, Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) Ma. Luz M. De los Reyes, PhD, CESO V, and Principal IV of Iloilo City National High School, Alpha A. Java, are hailed Outstanding Women of Iloilo City this year.

With more than 80% of women workers, it is no wonder that two from the DepEd SDO Iloilo City were chosen as two of the 2024 Ten Outstanding Women of Iloilo City.

First in the list of phenomenal women is the Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) of DepEd Iloilo City, Dr. Ma. Luz M. De los Reyes, CESO V. Her outstanding feat in the field of gender empowerment and equality proved that women can indeed excel in their chosen career as they are always working with devotion, persistence, and commitment.

Ma’am Luz is the epitome of an empowered woman leader. Under her leadership as SDS, various programs such as Talk, Love and Care for both teaching and non-teaching personnel were launched and successfully implemented to address the needs of employees in the department. She was also instrumental in the implementation of regionally initiated projects such as the School Heads Academy (SHA), the Farm School, and the implementation of COPE-HOPE during the pandemic.

Ma’am Alpha Java, on the other hand, is a breast cancer survivor and a living proof that women, despite the adversities, can still excel and be empowered. She is currently the Principal IV of Iloilo City National High School, the president of Division Association of School Heads (DASH), was awarded as Regional Winner in the Civil Service PAGASA Award Search for Outstanding Workers in 2022, as well as the Leadership Award given by Anak TV last November 29, 2023.

The prestigious award, Ten Outstanding Women of Iloilo City is a program of the Iloilo City Government thru the leadership of Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, under the Gender and Development together with the Office of the Committee on Women and Family Relations.

This project aims to give due recognition to women who have manifested exemplary performance in their profession that significantly brought honor and prestige to Iloilo City and its development.
